Toy Wrapping Donation Event

Wrapping presents is a challenging fine motor activity that also addresses scissor skills, visual motor skills, bilateral coordination, hand strength, and visual perceptual skills. Consider all of the steps required to wrap one package: precisely measuring and cutting the wrapping paper, dexterously folding and lining up the edges, ripping tape, holding the paper in one hand while securing tape with the other, and removing adhesive to add bows and labels. This holiday season, Sensational Development is partnering with the local Amityville organization, The Boutique at the Long Island Coalition for the Homeless (LICH), to put this adaptable fine motor activity to good use. From now until December 23rd, children will have the opportunity to hone their fine motor skills at our clinic by wrapping presents that will be donated to members of their own community.

Sensational Development is currently accepting donations for wrapping. Most needed items are children's toys, gifts for teens, and baby items including diapers.

About The Boutique at the Long Island Coalition for the Homeless

Located in the Amityville Community Resource Center the Boutique is open on Monday and Thursday 10am to 3 pm. Veterans and other neighbors-in-need can access new and gently used essential items. Items which are given away at the Boutique are all donated by people and organizations in the community. The items include clothing, non-perishable food, new bedding and pillows, personal care and feminine care items, toiletries and much more!

The Boutique is much more than a distribution center. The program engages the community in volunteerism, giving and spreads awareness about the issue of homelessness. At The Boutique, volunteers act as "personal shoppers" to assist people in finding the perfect items for their needs. The goal is for people to be able to "shop" with dignity. Volunteers are also responsible for sorting and organizing the donated items. The Boutique is constantly being decorated and updated to fit the season.
